hi all !

I have a tricky question: my old Qosmio X300-130 laptop has Intel PM45 chipset and Core 2 Duo processor; By specs it supports up to 8 GB of RAM DDR3. Can I insert 32 GB RAM (16 GB x 2) ?

Unlike the newer Core i-series chips, it doesn't have integrated memory controller in the CPU, but memory is managed as part of the chipset.
What will happen ? Will it boot ?

Thanks in advance,

NOTE: I like this old laptop, because of it's great looks and best laptop sound ever. So I don't want to buy a new one. It was a high-end gaming laptop back in 2008, but today it can be used as a production workhorse + multimedia machine and casual gaming. Intel Core 2 chip still runs all the apps I need at "good enough" performance.

Intel's official spec for the PM45 chipset is that it supports 8GB. From what I've read, that seems to be based on an actual hardware limit. There are a number of failure stories for people attempting more and I couldn't find any successes.
