Hello, everyone.

Is it possible to upgrade the following laptop bought in 2011. Acer Aspire 5750G-2334g50mnkk with a SSD AND keep my current HDD inside? I would use SSD for OS/apps and HDD for mass storage? On the back of the laptop there is room for just one HDD (2.5"). Can i somehow fit both SSD and HDD inside? Maybe remove optical drive to make space? I don't know much about pc/laptop buidling so I am seeking help from the pros. :)

The specs of the laptop are (since there are a lot of versions, for the ones that want to dig deeper) the following:
- i3-2330M 2.19GHz
- 4 GB RAM
- nVidia GeForce GT520M
- 500 GB HDD

If your laptop only has one bay for a laptop then you can only replace the current hard drive with an ssd. The dvd drive in a laptop usually has a different power & data connector than a regular laptop hard drive, besides a hard drive won't fit properly into a dvd drive's bay anyway.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot you get adapters like the one Boogieman_WD mentioned. They just always seemed like Macgyvering to me :)

Hey there, Dusan.

You should be able to get an SSD for that laptop. Although I would recommend that you contact the laptop manufacturer's customer support to make sure what SSD capacity would be compatible with this laptop model. And yes, you can remove the optical drive and get an HDD/SSD caddy where you can connect the HDD and use it as a secondary storage drive, after you reformat it.
If you plan on cloning the OS, this tutorial might come in handy: http://lifehacker.com/5837543/how-to-migrate-to-a-solid-state-drive-without-reinstalling-windows.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

The "adapter" should come with its own cable, if any at all is needed.

The best adapter will be from the laptop's vendor as it would come with a proper cover so you don't end up with a hole.

Not sure if you did this yet, but you can either:

Keep you HHD and add an SSD i the optical bay. That said you need to move your Windows etc to your new SSD and use the HDD for storage. That is a little complicated. Also, for the optical bay you would need the holder for the SSD which makes ir more expensive.

I would recommend that you buy a 500GB SSD and migrate all data over if you can live with total of 500 GB - you can even bring it to your next laptop. Your laptop is seeing the end of its days within a year or two.

You can see SSD compatibility here: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Acer/aspire-5750g

Now, you are on it, I would throw in 8 GB of ram - for 45 USD above link.

Good luck!

If you want to migrate your data all you need is a SATA to USB cable. Search youtube - there are great videos.
