I have a 32 bit Windows 7 operating system and I want to upgrade my RAM from 4 to 8GB but I am worried that my system won't be able to recognize anything over 4GB. Do I need to get a 64 bit operating system to enjoy the benefits of 8GB of memory?

Hello... this page for your MB say you can put Two more Sticks of memory... http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M4A79T_Deluxe/specifications/
Adding 4gb or more is possible with your MB... Try to locate similar models/brands like you have now... DDR3 all look the same but some communicate in a different manner, Make sure if you get a differnt brand/model , that they are compatable with your MB.

So do I have to upgrade to 64 bit operating system first then add the memory?

What is the best way to upgrade to 64 bit windows? Should I partition the hard drive?

Hello... You can not install 64 bit windows over 32 bit windows... A fresh clean install would be recommended... And backing up your DATA some where else would be needed... I recommend another hardrive for the NEW install, if you have alot of important Data on the OLD one.
You can upgrade the Ram any time... Windows 32bit will only be able use 4gb if you have 8gb installed.
