Question Upgrading memory to 8GB

I have an older E725-4520 laptop.
It came with T4400 cpu and 3GB ddr3 mewmory ND WINOWS7 64 BIT.
I upgrade to windows 10 and 4GB ddr3 2x2GB ddr3, all is good.

I then installed 8GB 2x4GB ddr3 memory, identical modules.
BIOS and win 10 reported 8GB.
windows 10 very slow, somteimes sy interrupts at 90%
Removed 1 4GB module, win 10 ran great
Any ideas?

However, you should verify that I correctly identified the laptop and the amount of supported RAM?

Did you try each 4 GB modules individually? One "ran great" - correct? Did the other module likewise "run great"?

If both modules work independently, then the problem is likely that 4 GB limit.

Yes they run independly ok.
Also windows mem diagnostic reports no errors with
all 8GB in the machine.
Also rab cpu-z, it sees all the memory dual channel.
Running the bench test (cpu-z) with 8GB runs slower
than with 4gb.
I'm just wondering if the problem might win10?

Or any memory above 4 GB may simply be just ignored and not necessarily generate an error or failure per se.

Tools, diagnostics, Windows etc. can see and measure the physical memory present but that does not mean the memory can be used.

The cpu-z bench test may be slower because it is testing for 8 GB but only 4 GB is viable and cpu-z gets a bit bogged down in some way.

Try the following:

Install one 4 GB RAM stick. Boot up and use Resource Monitor to check memory usage - note Physical Memory parameters presented at the bottom of the Resource Monitor screen.

Do not do anything else except launch Resource Monitor.

Then install the second 4 GB RAM stick, boot up, and again use Resource Monitor tp check Physical Memory parameters.

What differences are shown?

As I recall dram freq 399 FSB 2:1, speed numbers were the same for both slots.
The reason I suspect win10, is the high number sys interrupts CPu with the 8GB installed, could these be mem exceptions of some kind? 32 bit app accessing mem>4GB?
The OS is 64 bit win10.

Just to get w10 out of the mix.
I see memtest86 has a ram benchmark tool.
Perhaps give that a test drive with one stick and then with two sticks.

memtest86 would not boot.
Had to use older v4 version.

speed results
2gb + 2gb 2537 mb/sec pc3-8500
4GB 2131 mb/sec pc3-10600
4GB + 4GB 2517 mb/sec pc3-10600

With the full 8gb in, test seems to go thru iterations much slower.
