Hi all.

My fantasy is to go to Amazon, click three times and then receive a hot mobo and CPU to fit... yank out my old mobo, plug in the new one... xfer my memory cards, throw the switch and continue life as usual, only faster and more reliable than before.

How insanely unlikely is this?

What is the best way to get CLOSE to this experience? At a minimum, I assume I need to stick with intel processors, and a mobo that is happy with my current memory standard.

Where is my plan going to fall apart?

I only know enough to be very dangerous...

I saw a video of an Amazon-affiliated technician "upgrading" a motherboard... and it seemed they did exactly as I described... and I didn't think such a thing was possible!

Upgrading from 7 to 10 is not the same as a fresh install. There is a decent chance you will end up reinstalling Windows because of stability or performance issues. So your idea might work, it might not. The simplest option is to therefore plan for a fresh install of Windows from the start and cut out the messing about in the middle.
Well I am planning to do just this - take old mobo and processor out, put new one in, plug in SSD s and hope it powers on and does what's needed.
Will upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 at the same time, after system is booted up again.

Something tells me my plan is not quite the master plan I thought it was..
