Hey,

so this is my current rig:
I7 6700k
16gb ddr3l
gtx 1070 OC
samsung 850 evo 500gb
Corsair cx750 soon to be EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2
be quiet dark rock 3 asrock z170 pro4/d

and im having some memory issues where it uses 8gb when im idle nothing im too concerned with though but to resolve my issue, my current cpu cooler covered one of the 4 memory slots so putting 4x8gb is not an option and finding 2x16gb ddr3l is not easy lol i was thinking either change my mobo for one that takes ddr4 and buy 2x16gb or buy a new cooler that doesn't cover my my 4th slot although the cpu cooler would be more inexpensive is the motherboard upgrade along with the ram worth it ?

Thanks in advance.

There really isn't much difference, in performance, from DDR3 to DDR4. Also new motherboard often means new copy of Windows. If this is a gaming rig, which it appears to be, you don't need more than 16gb ram. Check your system for malware, using malwarebytes, and also check for programs that are running, at startup, that don't need to be.

might just go with a new cooler although my cooler is good its too large and as for the ram/memory issue i have a whole thread on that and nothing has really worked 🙁 so i need those 4x8gb...

So which cooler would you suggest?
or another root?
anything?
Thanks for replying guys

Seriously, a gaming rig does not need 32gb ram. I run dual monitors, playing WoW on one, with chrome and 10+ tabs open, with one watching youtube, netflix, or hulu, quite often, and do not run out of ram, and I have 16gb. I didn't run out, even with 8gb, back when I was using my 3570k.

ye but like i said i use 8gb ram while idle and have no idea why and have tried to fix
i might try rotating my cpu cooler to blow out the top fans but i doubt it'll work because its big both way lol
When my new EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2 get here i'll have a play and see what i can come up with (doubtful)
until then i have those options but there is no reason to not get 32gb ram ? just more head room right?

like i said in my first post that i started the thread with the cpu cooler overhangs my 4th ram/memory slot.
I'm not stupid i build PCs as a hobby,
my PSU has a coil whine that is the reason i am changing it for a high quality one but thanks for the concerning assumptions :)

PSU I do agree is a great idea, as yours is not a quality unit. I meant to say that earlier, and got distracted by someone. I am at work. Your current setup regarding ram and cooler should be fine, though. I have systems, that I work with, that run cad capable software, and they don't even need 32gb ram.

i completely agree 16gb should be enough but i sit a 8gb usage while idle,
you can only imagine what i sit at when in game and like i said i have made a thread about this issue but made no revelations as to what the issue is or how to fix it.

gone through all that the extensions and everything lol
we'll see when the new psu gets here saturday ish
