Upgrading mobo: keep phenom ii or grab fx CPU?

I am considering of upgrading my build for 2015, and have a question in regards of the CPU. The biggest reason for upgrading is the inclusion of DDR 3 and USB 3.0 support.

Will there be a vast noticeable difference if I decide to go with a 8- core fx line of CPU over my 6-core phenom ii?

Also, I will probably take 16GB of DDR 3 right off the bat (because Adobe just loves eating up ram it seems). I game too, mostly at 1080P.

Current build:

-CPU: AMD phenom ii 1605t X6 @ 3.5GHz
-Mobo: MSI 785gt e-63 am3+
-Ram: 4.5GB DDR 2
-Graphics: Asus AMD R9 280X 3GB
-Hard disks: 2x 1TB 7200 RPM
-Case: Cougar Challenger
-CPU cooler: Cool Master Hyper 212+

I am not specifically looking at components right now. Just researching.

What are your thoughts?

Grab an i5, a better fit. Or a Xeon if you can afford it.
