I already have a nvidia gtx 1050 and at the time wasn't aware that my CPU wouldn't be able to fully utilize the new GPU. I asked a friend what cpu could my computer handle and he recommended I get a new motherboard and CPU and even found what he thinks would work for me.

CPU

Would these help utilize my gpu and more importantly even work with a dell xps 8700?

And (I totally agree with posts above)just changing motherboard and processor is not going to work.
You would have to build completely new PC, because Dell is using proprietary front Panel adapter and other things.

If money are limited (for new PC), possible upgrades can be done, including CPU upgrade and GPU upgrade.
You can easy install GTX 1060 using your original PSU (460 watt most likely), maybe even 1070, but here you are trying your luck.

You can go up to i7 4790 http://www.userbenchmark.com/System/Dell-XPS-8700/3182 I have seen even a few 4790K, which you can even overclock (intensive cooling upgrades would be required) and you can pair 4790 even with GTX 1080 if you desire. Is that enough?

Why change motherboard?

I have an i5 4440
Sorry if my question was misleading, Im currently not sure if my cpu is in anyway holding back my gpu. A lot of my friends warned me about this before i got the 1050 so I kind of assumed it was.

Im really not having any major issues with any games im just wondering if a new motherboard and cpu will improve performance in anyway. I usually have around 150-240 frames in most games but its usually cause i have the lowest settings. The only game i have issues with is pubg, i usually get around 80-ish frames and thats on lowest settings with a lowered resolution.

I'd say no, a new CPU and motherboard won't help. That's because in almost all games at 1080p, the 1050 is the limiting factor. Your i5 is 'enough' CPU that adding more CPU speed, cores, or threads won't help.

For instance, even a game like Assassin's Creed Origins, which can use a lot of CPU power, is going to perform only as well as the 1050 allows.
