I bought a Z170 (Maximus VIII Formula)motherboard recently and I want to replace my H170 (Asus H170 pro gaming) mobo. Will it work right away or I need to do something with OS? im quite a noob so I appreciate instructions. thank you!

Solution
No. It wont remove the pictures on the HDD. When you are trying to install Windows on SSD try disconnecting the HDD and once you are done with the windows 10 installation just plug back the HDD. Sometimes there might be chances for the windows to install the boot partition on a second drive. So to get away from that it would be good to disconnect the HDD and reconnect once the installation is done.

Peace.
Yes you should reinstall your windows as the motherboard and chipsets all drivers are new it can be that you cant even boot with your new motherboard so get the OS ready in Drive or pendrive to install in the new motherboard and copy the C drive data that you need thats needs to be formatted

Additionally you can download and keep the latest drivers for new motherboard. the drivers that comes with the CD may be outdated

You need to fresh install windows for it to work well with your motherboard as it was working on a different motherboard before. If you are using Windows 10 , Before you do all the swapping link your Microsoft account to the Windows 10 digital license on your device now. Later when you are installing motherboard to your system, Create a bootable USB using the latest windows 10 ISO image, install it and reactivate the windows by using your MS account.

For windows 7 use the product key you are having to activate.

Peace.

Thank you so much! one more question though. I have one ssd and 1 hdd in my pc. If I reinstall windows 10 in ssd, will it erase all my pictures that are saved in my hdd?
