StormFade :
Hi guys,
I am thinking about upgrading my motherboard and want to know which one to pick for my current specs and usage.
Specs:
I7 4770k @ 4.2 GHz
GTX 1070
I am thinking about upgrading my 16gb DDR3 ram to 32gb DDR3 ram, so keep that in mind.
I mainly use my computer for gaming and video rendering, so please think of that too.
Thanks.
StormFade,
On Passmark Performance Test baselines, there are 12,096 systems tested using the i7-4770K. Sorted by CPU performance the top performing motherboards appear to be:
1. ASUS Maximus VI Hero (CPU = 13865 @ 4.9GHz)
2. MSI Z97 MPower Max AC (MS_7888) ( 13819 @ 4.9)
3.ASRock Z87 OC Formula (13530 @ 4.8)
The Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H-CF and ASRock Z87 Extreme 4 also appear to be very good, but glancing at the page of the top 100 performing i7 4770k, the ASUS Maximus VI Hero and Extreme stand out - 18 of the top 100.
There are 18 systems using the i7 4770k with a GTX 1070. The top performing motherboards with GTX 1070:
1. ASUS Grpyphon Z87 (12249 @ 4.5GHz)
2. MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming (MS-7845)
3. ASUS Z87-Plus
4. ASRock Z87 Killer
6. ASUS Z97 Pro Gamer (10842 @ 4.2)
So, it looks as though Z87 is the thing and ASUS, then ASRock, or MSI.
If you overclock, be prepared for some video rendering dissappointments.
Cheers,
