Hello forum

First the question,

Can i fit an ATX motherboard in my case?

The backstory

Ok so im on the cusp of ordering a MSI Z97 GAMING 3 S1150 Intel Z97 DDR3 ATX and for a few reasons i really wanna keep the HP case

According to the HP site http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/kb/docDisplay/?javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.prp_ba847bafb2a2d782fcbb0710b053ce01=wsrp-navigationalState%3DdocId%253Demr_na-c01859820-25%257CdocLocale%253D%257CcalledBy%253D&javax.portlet.tpst=ba847bafb2a2d782fcbb0710b053ce01&sp4ts.oid=3999459&ac.admitted=1404023438108.876444892.199480143

i got a Mid-size ATX
Height: 38.7 cm (15.23 inches)
Width: 17.5 cm (6.89 inches)
Length: 41.4 cm (16.29 inches)

It currently has an U-ATX board but as i say im looking at an ATX - cos its cheaper also.

Im just looking for ways to be sure it will fit before i order the bits. I also see from scanning the site there could be issues with the power button

Many thanks

Solution
If there is a uATX mobo in there at the moment, then you should replace it with another uATX mobo. Then you know it should fit.

Wiki gives the sizes of motherboards. Measure up the case and see if an ATX size mobo will fit.
It won't fit since there needs to be room for the power supply as well. Just open up the case and you will understand what I am saying.

There are plenty of good Mid Towers that fit an ATX motherboard that go on sale for $20 after rebate. I own the Cougar Solutions Black Steel and is in the process of ordering the NZXT Source 210.

I stopped using my memory card reader that came with my HP desktop but it was definitely convenient.

Here is a pic of the inside. I see extra holes unused above the current motherboard

Ok thanks i thought it went the otherway. thats crystal clear now!!

I've just measured the space and it seems i have enough room for the 24.4 x 24.4 cm of the MSI. The Pegatron one in there is 24.4 cm (9.6 inches) x 21.8 cm (8.6 inches) - hence the spare holes!!

Does anyone think i will be safe with another u-ATX then.
