Upgrading my 3-year old PC

I've been using this PC for 3 years now and have never upgraded it. But now, with the new platforms and my pc starting to become slow (fps drops), I'm thinking of upgrading it as well just because I might spend my money somewhere else. Here's my specs.

CPU = AMD FX-6300 (with stock cooler)
GPU = Sapphire R9 270x dual-x OC (2gb)
Motherboard = Asus M5A97 le r2.0
RAM = G.skill 2x4gb ddr3 1600
PSU = Seasonic SII 520w
HDD = WD Blue 1TB
OS = Windows 7
Monitor = Benq GL2055 (1600x900,TN, 20")
Case = Cougar Challenger

First thing I'm looking at is both a new monitor (24" , ips 1080p) and a 200-500gb SSD. Other than that, what should I upgrade? I mostly only watch movies and play League of legends/CS:GO/Overwatch but I do have stuff like Witcher 3, Star Citizen, GTA V, RE7 but haven't touched them in a while or at all because of the fps drops. I mostly don't care about intel/amd/nvidia so any recommendation is nice. I don't overclock as well but want to try so its okay if you recommend it.

Question: What else should I upgrade other than a new monitor and SSD?
Budget = $300 for monitor and SSD
$300-400 for others.
(Stretchable to $500 but prefer not to)
Thanks to anyone that answers!

Certainly wouldn't swap a 6300 for a Pentium or an i3 , either a quad core or nothing IMO.

By all accounts go for a monitor, ssd & a new GPU - 480 4gb is a great value choice.

6300 is capable of running GTA v, witcher 3 & resi 7 easily overclocked.

You dont have the greatest quality board but the right cooler choice will still likely net you 4.2ghz or so.

Kind of stretches your budget to the max, but sets you up for future upgrades (better CPU, RAM, etc.) Also selected a 144Hz Freesync Monitor to compliment the RX 480. And you need Windows 10 for DX12.

Another option would be to wait for the new R5 CPU's from AMD and see how well they compete. (Releasing on the 11th)
