Upgrading my 4870 1GB

I am upgrading my current gaming system.

Starting tomorrow, my new specs will be :
i5 2500K (Oc'ed moderately and verified stable)
8GB DDR3 1600
Antec 300
ASRock Extreme 3 Gen 3 mobo
Corsair tx 750 psu
ATI 4870 1GB

Obviously, the 4870 will be a bottle neck...

I'm budget limited as to what I can upgrade to.

I am considering selling my 4870, hoping to get ~$70 total.

That will give me a budget of around ~$240 for a video card.

Does anyone know of any screaming deals? I realize I will probably end up getting a 6950 1GB with my budget... I'm just hoping to find one for a good price. I would be fine with an Nvidia card as well, if the deal was good enough.

personally in that budget I would get a msi tf3 or asus DC2 gtx 560 ti, got mine and it runs at 1 GHZ core with great temps and not much voltage increase, at that performance it will crush a 6950... (not that the 6950 can't be oc'ed)

Forgot to mention...

Another option would be waiting until the 7000 series of cards come out.

I would be okay with staying with DX9 and lowering AA to then, if it would be worth it.

AMD has been giving free codes to it's fan (on facebook official page) so i guess it's not that big deal with getting a Deus Ex code, HD 6950 outperforms the GTX 560ti and 7k series will be the same architecture as the 6K series but with different shaders and different transistors (doesn't worth it IMO)

^^^I disagree with some of what you are saying up here; the 6950 outperforms in some games but saying that it outperforms the gtx 560ti in general is a nonsense blanket statement if anything both cards are on par with each other but considering the fantastic ability to overclock a good model gtx 560ti, the op would get near gtx 570 performance, that is what I get with the gpu in my config.... like I said before, I realize the 6950 could be oc'ed as well....The 6950 would also be a good choice but by no means does it outright outperform the gtx 560ti and it also depends on what games you are talking about and what model of gpus you are talking about so please be more specific. The 560ti will hold up under heavy tessellation which the radeon cards will not and it is generally cooler and much quieter then the 6950s when just comparing reference models, now say the OP went with a nice gtx 560ti model such as the MSI and ASUS and now you likely have a highly overclock able card that will be even cooler and quieter...

good luck but honestly Id go for the asus DC2 or MSI Hawk or TF2 models of the gtx 560ti getting those coolers makes owning those gpus well worth the extra 20 bucks or so trust me... of course the reference models can be oc'ed as well but personally Ive had great results with the models I listed above also gigabyte has a super overclock edition which comes at 1ghz stock no doubt that will be neck and neck with the 570/6970 right out of the box

it has higher fps in most of all games,1GB or 2 GB won't matter and if you want me to be specific here i am, if you notice in benchmarks you'll see that HD 6950 better the 560ti even if with a 0.5% increase in FPS
so actually it outperforms

agreed and watch it take off when/if you oc it trust me, if you could still flash the 6950 consistently then id say go that route but doing that seems to be a thing of the past

imo those are mostly all heavily favored amd titles in that review, guru 3d is reputable but given some more variety of choice and you would see a more even picture of performance

I play WoW and Rift also.

Nvidia performs better on those particular games.

If the 6950's could still be flashed, I would definitely get one of those.

I would also get a 6950 if I found one for this price. :)

never wow'ed, tried rift couldnt get into it, guess it will be a BFBC2 montage until BF3 is released :) not to mention... rage, skyrim, and star wars kotor mmo, to name a few...which i hope to pick up before the year is out/ early '12 shoudl be a great holiday lineup imo

chekc techpowerup and legitreviews and you'll see that HD6950 has better performance in relative high resolution 1080P with Dx11 games such as Metro 2033 and BFBC2

you are the one that told me to look at techpowerup so there ya go eat your words
mind you these are all from the same article and from techpower up like you told me to check out the 6950 wins in metro and avp and crysis...

the 6950 wins in f1 2011 but that was along time ago before drivers were optimized...

all radeon 6 series gpus choke under heavy tessellation, the ti will also win substantially in crysis 2 with the dx11 features and high res pack... the test suite is quite oudated imo
