I currently have a build with an i3-7100, ASUS H110M-A motherboard, 8gb ram, 500gb SSD and 1050ti. I was thinking of upgrading my cpu to a i5-7400, as then i can upgrade my gpu later on, games will run better by a bit straight away, and i wont need to change my motherboard. I also thought i could sell my current cpu for maybe £60-£70 on ebay, which if i buy the i5 of ebay would cover all but £50 of the cost. However, I was wondering if it would be worth instead upgrading my motherboard and CPU together to get a later gen chipset (keep on mind the more money i save the better as i am 16, but i want to get the best price to performance) Thanks!

I see no issue doing that.
You should be able to get some used i5 for cheap.
I’d go with a local deal if possible just so that I can test the CPU.
