Okay I have an a8 6600k, I'm on a budget here, I have a buyer for my Mobo and a8, would getting an Pentium G4560 be a substantial upgrade? And I've already picked a Mobo for it, was looking to get a ryzen 1600 but just can't afford it. I will get the ryzen later on. Also I have an xfx rx 480 8g in the build currently. This is mainly for gaming.

Yes, DDR4 is a requirement. Kaby Lake (7th-gen CPUs and motherboards) does not support DDR3.

If you'll be using the G4560 and a B250-chipset motherboard, the max. RAM speed that can be supported is 2400MHz. The capacity depends on your use and budget. I'd get a 16GB (2x8GB) if budget permits, if not, minimum is 8GB (2x4GB).
