I have a MSI Gaming Plus Max B450 paired with a AMD R5 2600, can I upgrade my cpu to a AMD R7 2700 without replacing my motherboard?

Yes you can! Here's the CPU support list for your motherboard, to give you peace of mind. Cross-reference the BIOS version you have now with the one that's stated to support the processor you want to upgrade to.

Yes you can. You could even upgrade to 3rd gen ryzen if you wanted. But keep in mind that PCIE 4.0 is only available with the newer boards.
