I have the following mbo -

Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard
Model 1494 (SOCKET 0)
Chipset Vendor Intel
Chipset Model Sandy Bridge
Chipset Revision 09
Southbridge Vendor Intel
Southbridge Model Q67
Southbridge Revision B2
BIOS
Brand Hewlett-Packard
Version J01 v02.09
Date 1/07/2011

I wish to upgrade the CPU to i7-3770. Is this possible, and will I need to update the BIOS? TIA

Maybe and yes. It's possible if there's a BIOS upgrade for this specific motherboard that supports it. You'd certainly need one as the Ivy Bridge CPUs didn't even launch until a year after that BIOS came out. Upgrades like this on prebuilts have a tendency to be a bit iffy.

Honestly, I'd simply avoid it on a prebuilt since there was a negligible difference between Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge performance. Look for a 2600 or a 2600K or a 2700K.
