Hi guys, my rig is now close to 3 years old. It was pretty high-end back in the day, but now I want to upgrade because of my Oculus DK2 that i'm getting in july. Really want to hit that constant 70fps.

I was setting up a new configuration, doing some research about the latest tech and I was surprised to see how most of my components still hold up to today's standards.. Instead of building a whole new machine of +€1500 I might just as well buy a new graphics card and save myself a €1000. The only thing I'm worried about is my CPU..

My current rig:
Mainboard: ASROCK P67 Extreme4 v3
CPU: INTEL Core i5 2500K 3.3 ghz
Graphics: 2x CLUB3D RADEON HD6950
RAM: G.SKILL 8GBRL
SSD: MICRON Crucial M4 128 gb
HD: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB
Power: CORSAIR HX 750 watt
Heatsink: SCYTHE Mugen 2
Case: COOLERMASTER CM 690 II

I'd buy a GTX 780 (and probably a SB Z), what do you guys think?

"Depends on the games. You want 60 FPS+ (ideally 70+) scenes at 960x1080, rendered twice, and to do that with some newer titles that get 3rd-party VR integration, GTX770 is about right.
If you are just demoing fairly simple / rudimentary VR games in terms of graphics, then much weaker GPUs will still be able to run them at probably over 100 FPS for DK2."

Hi, Although the processor is a second generation Sandy Bridge, it is stil a good processor ( I have a Desktop running a 1st gen i7 960 and it does fine ). I noticed that it looks like you have two HD 6950's in Crossfire. One thing I did notice was your Motherboard. ASRock is good, but you have one with the P67 Chipset. I don't know if that allows for OCing or not and you have an unlocked processor. I would move to a Board with a Z68 Chipset as I know you can OC with that and that processor. A GTX 770 is a good choice and a bit cheaper.

I think your plan is a good one.

I have no idea how cpu or gpu bound Oculus DK2 will be.
But, in general, high frame rates come from having a superior graphics card.
If you have not yet done so, your P67 based motherboard should allow you to oc from 3.3 to perhaps 4.0.

With any sort of a budget limitation, I would upgrade the graphics first to a single great card like the GTX780 in one of it's variants. A single card will make for smoother gameplay than a dual gpu.
Your 750W psu is good enough to run a GTX780ti.
Such a card would even support a move to a 1440P monitor.

If, in the future when Oculus DK2 appears, and you find the cpu lacking, you will have better upgrade options with a Z97 based motherboard and a i5-4690K(devil/s canyon)
