Guys i was thinking about upgrading my dell studio xps 1340 with an ssd. Will the crucial mx100 be compatible with my laptop? I think my laptop still has SATA II.

Will a SATA III ssd work on a SATA II Laptop?

Really appreciate the help guys.

Solution
Yes, most certainly. But it will run at SATA II speeds which is still about twice as fast, if not faster, than a mechanical HDD at SATA II speeds.
Doing a "clean" install once you get the new drive will make all the difference in the world too. In fact, in most cases, on systems that have been running the same install for a long time, just doing a clean install often restores a significant amount of performance. It will not however, ever gain you as much performance increase as installing an SSD and doing a clean install.

Either one. Any 2.5" SSD should work fine. You just want to pay attention to the read and write speeds along with checking reviews for reliability. The Intel 530 series and Samsung 840 EVO are at the top of the pack, but the OCZ Vector 150 series is decent and the this Sandisk drive is gaining popularity due to it's very fast speed and low price:
