I routinely use 2 Windows computers. Newest is a Dell Inspiron 16 5640 laptop (refurb) that I just bought to replace my old one. CPU is Intel(R) Core(TM) 7 150U - 1.80 GHz. 256gb SSD. (Specs 10 cores, 2 performance + 8 efficiency. – 12 threads?? RAM is 16gb – OS is Win 11 Home.) Quite happy so far.

My 7 year old desktop PC is one I built. It’s running Windows 10 Pro. Mobo is ASRock 760GM-HDV Motherboard (Micro ATX ) w/ AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor - 4.00 GHz CPU. Ram is 16gb. 256gb SSD for OS & 1tb HDD for data.

It’s main use is running my AgentDVR security camera system (4 wireless cameras) and other home office duties. (Mostly use laptop.) I DO use some for light photo/video editing.

It does it’s job BUT trying to use Win 10 & Win 11 is a ‘pain’ & Win 10 is nearing end of support.

I’m thinking of just replacing the MB/CPU/Memory as I just put in a new 750w Focus power supply and the case is solid.

I’m leaning toward an AMD Ryzen ? cpu. ?????

I’d appreciate recommendations on a Mobo/CPU/RAM combo. I’M NOT A GAMER.

Thanks in advance. Pops

How old is your Seasonic PSU mentioned above? Make and model of your case? What of your storage drives?

If you are not gaming, then something from Intel like this would be better. Their motherboards have much better features for the money, and have really good threaded performance and decent single threaded performance. The 265K is more powerful than the 9700X in non-gaming workloads and a bit cheaper at the same time. With the following build you get a lot of niceties that will last you many more years like the system you had before. You get Wifi-7, a 5gbp/s ethernet port, a ton of USBs, and 3 extra NVMe slots for lots of room for expandable fast storage. I added an NVMe drive because any self respecting PC made in the last 5 years deserved one as a boot drive. I made sure to add one with a DRAM cache. 64GB of RAM is overkill now, but is only about 40 dollars more than an equivalent 32gb kit. Added a CPU cooler just to make sure you had something that could tame the CPU under all core workloads. Its a very good cooler for the small cost.

Hard to argue against the 265k in this case. Depending on application the 265k is the better choice, and others it slightly favors AMD. It all depends on what you use, and whether you care about upgrade path. Given your history of holding onto hardware, I would guess upgrade path may be less important, but worth noting anyway.
