Hey guys just won some money on the lottery so I thought I'd upgrade my existing rig into a gaming monster!

My current setup is

i5 4690k
h100i liquid cooler
Gigabyte Z-97x Gaming 5 was never really sold on the board in the first place
8gb ram
Gigabyte wind force GTX 970
250gb SSD
EVGA SuperNOVA 650W psu

Basically what I want to do is move up to a i7 add another GTX 970 to SLI them get a better motherboard, bigger PSU obviously seems adding another GPU add a 500gb ssd and possbily a 120 or 144hz monitor. Want to turn my existing setup into a beast of a machine.

The problem is there are so many different boards and cpu's out there that I'm not too sure on what to pick hence why I'm here as i don't want to waste my money

Thanks in advance

James

Hello mate.

As your machine is kinda beast already, upgrading them wont give you the results expected for the money you gonna spend. I think you gonna be bottlenecked by your monitor. So you must upgrade your monitor first of all.
The best choice on the market right now and a monster of a monitor is the new Acer Predator XB270HU 27" G-Sync IPS 144Hz Gaming monitor.
After that you can go with a second 970 to go near the 120hz average mark.
Of course you gonna need a 850watt power supply for that, a platinum one. I wouldn't upgrade the motherboard tho, no gaming benefits are gonna come off, (already supports SLI, has many pci-e, its a fine mobo).
Just wait fot the Skylake cpus that are gonna come and upgrade your CPU-Mobo-RAM that time....
Good luck with your system mate!

Yeah, its currently the most expensive of all the 144hz ones, as it has all the latest technologies combined, plus the 1440p resolution. ;) Cant get better that this. And since youalready got a 970 playing all the games on ultra, there is not a point spending money upgrading an already fast machine.
Unless you go for 1440p resolution, 144hz, and SLI to support these... And G-sync of course. All these are a gamers nirvana dude xD
Cant really think of a better way to spend money and get better gaming quality and performance that does difference.

Its a good choice of course, but i think if you gonna buy a monitor that you gonna have for the next 5 years or so, it must have a frame-sync technology in it...
Choose one with G-sync.
I'm also gonna upgrade my monitor this year, im waiting for new and more affordable G-sync/IPS/144hz options to come out...
If you think you gonna be ok without it, just buy whatever you can afford and suits you best xD
