Hello, I'm looking to upgrade my current gaming PC build. My goal is to be able to play both current and newer games on at least mostly high settings.

GPU: Radeon HD 6870
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955
Motherboard: BIOSTAR A880g+
Power Supply: Silverstone 500W
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X 8GB

After doing a little research on my own, I've come up with a few upgrades, but I would greatly appreciate any feedback or suggestions. I also need advice on which Graphics card to choose. I'm working with a budget of around $500. I will hopefully be making my purchase within the next couple of weeks.

CPU: AMD FX-8320
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P AM3+

Thanks for any feedback or suggestions!

your MOBO dont support FX get Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Motherboard OR Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2PT Motherboard if you are on extreme low budget

Solution

I looked into the i5-4460, and I believe that would be a better choice for me overall, along with the motherboard you suggested. However, the graphics card is a bit expensive, pushing me about $40 over budget. Any other suggestions for something that would work well with the i5-4460?

I still say try to get the r9 290 for a bit more if you can.

Okay, so far this is what I'm looking at as far as upgrades go:

CPU: Intel i5-4460
GPU: Sapphire R9 280x
Motherboard: ASRock H97 Anniversary

Now my only concern is if my PSU is strong enough to handle all of this? I've had my current system for over 3 years now and I did experience an issue a few weeks ago that may have been PSU related; however, it's cleared up now. I'm at my budget now, but I don't mind going over a bit to ensure all my components will be supported by a reliable PSU.

you will have to get a better PSu like Corsair CX600m(minimum)

CX series is poor quality - avoid them. Get something from seasonic, XFX, super flower, or EVGA (not all of the EVGA are good though).

Does this look good? EVGA New Version SuperNOVA 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified 750W

I also think I might go for the R9 290, rather than the 280x. The extra $30-$40 seems worth it based on the performance increase.

That PSU has 4 rails with only 20 amps on each... you are better off with this one with 62 amps on a single rail (its also $20 cheaper).
