Upgrading my GPU & PS need help HP Pavilion

Hey guys, i got a HP Pavilion HPE H8-1287C, the power supply is only 300w, and its got a terrible GPU in it. To my knowledge, if i upgrade the GPU, i'll have to ugprade the power supply also. Can somone please give me some help in upgrading these? I was looking at spending about $150ish for a GPU. here are some specs i dug up on it.

Motherboard - IPMMB-FM (Formosa)
Intel Core i7 3770
12gb memory
Radeon HD 7450
Mid-size ATX case
internal 300W power supply (100v-240v)
- dimension 150mm x 140mm x 86mm (5.9 x 5.5 x 3.4inches)

any help would be greatly appreciated, i was looking towards the GTX 470/560 cards, they seem to be in the 150-180 range.

If i were you i would go with a 7850 or 7870 if you can get enough, i think you can pick up a 7850 for about 160ish. As for a power supply. Any reputable brand With decent wattage on the 12v rail, 500w is a good start though, should run any 6 pin graphics card fine. Which is what the 7850 is.

ya a 7850 and a corsair/antec 80+ psu is a nice upgrade

At least a 750 watt Corsair PSU considering that you have an i7 and the high end video card. It might sound excessive but 300 watts would only provide power for onboard gpu and not a video card.

My Dell DM061 only came with a 305 watt PSU and it wouldn't run a video card older than 2003, I now use a 550 watt PSU but my video card is only a GT 8600.

The problem with HP and Dell is that they use proprietory parts and the fitting of a non prop hardware like the PSU could mean that only two screw holes are actually visible., good enough and nothing is vibrating, fortunately.

The7450 uses PCIe 2.0, the motherboard supports version 3.0 so a better video card would be better but you'd need a better PSU possibly 750 watts for the proper connectors.

If you intend on crosslfire or sli, you won't get good performance as there is only one PCIe 3.0 video card slot, the other is only PCIe 2.0 which means that the bandwidth for running both cards would revert back to 2.0

Either the AMD Radeon 7850 video card or a GTX 660 would most likely be best suited.

I have a 7850, and run it fine off the Antec new 520, that is with a 125w Cpu

thanks for all the replies guys, i appreciate it. So if i were to go with a 750 PSU, what do i need to look for? Like do i need to match the size? Sorry i'm a complete noob when it comes to this. And with the PSU its just plug and play right? i wouldn't need to mess with the bios or anything for the new PSU?

yeah a 750 would be fine. As long as its is a reputable brand. Some advertise 750, but that is at peak. some 750w psu's get half that. Anything by Corsair, Antec, Seasonic, XFX. should be fine.

thanks guys i just ordered a Asus 7850 1gd5 card from amazon for $150. Just need to find the PSU now.
