So, I've been struggling for a while on my HP Pavilion. Am currently looking at a MSI - GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Video Card
(Link here:http://)

My PC specs are also here:

I was simply wondering what i'd have to do in order to install the card. Are there any other items I would have to purchase? If so, I would appreciate if someone could give me reccomendations as to what I need.

Cheers!

Solution
There is no molex plug so that makes it hard. Yes you can search Newegg and find a sata to molex adapter and then plug in the molex to pcie one.

I found a better solution... It's a bit pricey but a real power supply would make system upgrades in the future way easier.

No not really because when a discrete card is installed the IGP is disabled which saves some power that the APU uses. Also the APU is already low wattage at 65watts TDP so with the GPU disabled or idle it will be 45watts TDP or less.

Because the board lacks a higher wattage pcie slot, it's better to go with a video card that uses a 6 pin pcie connector. You will need a molex to pcie adaptor. There are some GTX1060's that come with that adapter. Your pretty much stuck with a GTX1060.
You can forget about overclocking the video card unless you want to see smoke pour out of the power supply when it fries.

So, either get a new motherboard, and a new power supply, or stay with the 1060? Do you have any recommendations for any compatible 1060's that are about the price of the 1050? (about 140 dollars)

Do measure first to see how much room you have.

Solution
Your OS system is tied to the motherboard. I looked and there are no bios updates to support the faster ryzen cpus either.

On the bright side you have a quad core that's fairly fast. Your limited to how much room you have in the case for the card so do some measuring to be sure.

It's possible to do some "red neck" butchering to make your power supply work. But if you can buy a decent one that is a way better option and it will likely last longer. The HP one is built cheap with poor quality capacitors that have a reputation of failing eventually, when they fail they usually fry the board+ expensive OS system along with it.

There is the 30watt TDP GT1030 2gb DDR5 card. (Don't get the DDR4 version its really slow)

The issue is that you spend about $100 and your computer still can't play games. Like who wants to play BF1 at the lowest settings at 720P so it looks like a Minecraft version of BF1?

I see. As of now, I have played a bit of TF2 at about 30 frames and extremely low quality. Anything is an upgrade. But at the same time, I wouldn't like to upgrade something I already upgraded later down the road. I'll probably save up more and go with the 'Power supply' option you outlined below.

Cheers!

Hey good luck. In the meantime you might want to try some classics since your IGP is actually not that bad if you go back to the HD-3870 and GTX8800 era. Try playing Willrock (Sorta like serious sam HD), Serious sam 2, NFS prostreet, The 1st or 2nd Call of Duty, Unreal tournament 2003 or 2004 (online servers still exist it was a very popular game, as well as COD1), Unreal 3, Batman that's based on unreal 3, Gas Guzzlers Extreme, Bloodrayne2, (Many of these games have playable demos so you can try them first) anything that was made to run on the Xbox360 or PS3 should be pretty safe.

Metro 2033 games and the new Doom and Wolfienstien new world order and watch dogs and BF1, mirror's edge catalyst, (Just kidding it will be a slide show) It will be more fun to max out old games than run new ones at 480p and the lowest settings.

The newest COD is mostly a remake of COD1, they go back to WWII because it was the game that everyone liked the most. Of course COD WWII wont run well but the 1st one should run nice. COD modern warfare 4 is good too but i only played it on the 360 at my buddy's place.

I forgot the best game that runs on little of all time.. F.E.A.R. There is a playable demo too. Dirt2 should also run but the online servers are dead.
