I'm wanting to upgrade my monitor to a 144hz one. With this I am going to upgrade my gpu from a GTX 960 to either a GTX 1660 TI or a GTX 2060.
I am currently running on an i5-6600k, is it necessary to upgrade this and if so what cpu would you reccomend to upgrade to which isn't too expensive.

Solution
You should be ok with the 6600K in most games. The best CPU upgrade you could do would be a i7-7700K (with BIOS update if necessary) however the used prices are stupid high.

It would be better to upgrade to either a new Intel or AMD Ryzen motherboard platform. You can get a Ryzen B450 mobo for around 50-70 USD and a new Ryzen 2600 for 120, or you can get the slightly slower Ryzen 1600 AF new for 85USD.

Thankyou for the reply, I think I will stay with the 6600k I currently have and see how it performs with the upgrades.
If I have any problems, I will definitely look into changing the MOBO.

If you can find an i7 6700 or 7700 k or non k for a good deal, which IMO in 2020 would be under 100 USD since a 4 core 8 thread CPU is last gen technology then it it might be worth it.
