[SOLVED] Upgrading my old desktop

Hello,

I have a laptop I bought almost 3 years ago, with a 1070, a 6700HQ and a 4K G-Sync screen, which (not surprisingly) can barely play the latest games at the screen's resolution. I don't know if monitors, in general, have trouble displaying games at anything but the screen's native resolution or I just have grown used to the insane pixel density of a 4k 15" screen, but I don't like playing in anything but 4K.
I also have na old desktop which I bought in 2013 I think, with na I3 and a GT630. I wanted to know if I could upgrade the graphics card with a 5700XT or something… then buy a new monitor (I have a 768p 19" monitor), with 144hz and 1080p.

What do you think?

Hey there,

That I3 system will prob bottlneck that card to the point where you will be dissapointed.

With about $400 you could get a new base system, stick it in with the case with your HDD/SSD's from the old desktop, and then you would have something that would drive a 5700xt nicely,

I'vd added the 5700xt to the list just to see total price. But this would get you steller gaming at 1080p/144hz and pretty good at 1440p/60hz high in game settings.

Yeah I'll probably just buy a new system now or wait until the next generation of NVIDIA cards to buy one with a 3080ti or something.

What do you think of a system with a rysen 3700X, a 5700XT, 16GB RAM and a ATX MSI X570-A Pro motherboard for 1200€? I live in Portugal so I don't have easy access to those stores in the US.

Oh and about that thing with the 4K monitor, do you think it can display 1440p or 1080p just as nicely as a native monitor of those resolutions?

Apologies, for some reason I'm not getting notifications on threads.

The system you've suggested would be an awesome gamer. Make sure the ram is fast, at least 3200 CL16. Yes, it will run really well on either 1080p/144hz or 1440p 60hz (maybe more - game dependent) with ease and on high in game settings.

The 1660 Super, would be a better match with the I3, but in some games your CPU will still max out before the GPU will, so a slight bottleneck.
