Hi guys i need your advice on this rig. I already have my cooler-master HAF 912 computer case, my san disk 240GB SSD with my stuff on it and RAM but need advice on the following design.

Motherboard - Asus Maximus VI Hero

PSU - OCZ 750w Modular

I believe thats it but i have been out of the hardware upgrade game for a while so i am sure i am missing something and please tell me what you think about the parts chosen.

Thanks in advance.

It's not possible to overclock without having both a 'k' processor and a z87 motherboard. Also, there isn't too much difference between the 4570 and the 4670k, the main difference is the fact only a 'k' CPU can be overclocked.

Since you want to overclock and you're on a budget, the best thing to do would be to get a cheaper z87 motherboard. The one you picked is really expensive.

Could you give me your budget? For now, I'll try to keep the total price the same as the total price of the parts you suggested (~650).

By the way, what will you be using the system for and what is your monitor's resolution? Will you be using more than one monitor?

Hi,

I will be using the rig for video editing and gaming but primarily gaming.

I like the two suggestions regarding the motherboard and processor. But heard the r9 200 series runs hot so i think i could change it to the gigabyte windforce 770.

What do you think about that.

Thanks,

Luke.

In terms of performance, the GTX 770 and the R9 280X are about equal.

I currently use an HD7970 Ghz card and the R9 280X is a rebrand of the HD7970 Ghz. My card tends to run at around 30°C on idle and at around 60°C when gaming. I'm pretty sure that's normal.

When deciding between the two cards, it usually comes down to which brand you prefer, Nvidia or AMD. The Windforce 770 is also a great card.

Just so you know, the R9 280X I suggested will get noisy while gaming, you wouldn't notice if you used a headset, but if you prefer a quieter card then you should probably go for the Windforce.

Could you give me your budget please? And your monitor resolution? That might allow me to make a better build. Although this one would still be a beast.

Hi i dont mind which brand really, before my 560ti i had a 5870. although noise is an issue as i run a seperate audio system, My budget isnt really a problem aslong as its justified which is why i would prefer a 770 at the moment ticks more of the boxes. And my resolution will be 1080p because i have my 90" projector and will upgrade next year to 4k but that wont be for games as much.

Thanks.

Ok, since budget isn't a problem, go for the Windforce 770.
For your overclock, will it be light or heavy? What clock are you going to try to achieve? Depending on that, you might need a better cooler.

There isn't any point in such a small OC, especially on the 4670k, it turbos up to 3.8ghz anyway.

I was actually asking about the processor but it's a good thing that you misunderstood because it revealed you planned to SLI. About the sli, you have to tell me these things! The motherboard I originally suggested isn't sli capable. And a 750w PSU just might not be enough to run 2 770's so we'll upgrade to an 850w and switch out the motherboard.

PSU: XFX XXX Edition 850w

Motherboard: Asus Z87-A

Will you be going for a 3-way sli, or a 2-way sli? The motherboard should support both, but the 850w can only support 2-way. About your video editing, is it just some light stuff or will you be doing heavy video editing?
