Upgrading My PC bit by bit advice

Hey well I bought a pc from mesh computers about 5/6 years ago and have upgraded a few bits but not much.
I want to upgrade what it is now but want to do it over time to watch the finances lol

At the moment I am using a dual core chip I believe, 16 gb ddr2 ram (4×4gb sticks) 1gb ddr3 ATI RADEON graphics card, 1 tb (2 x 500gb hdd)

I am looking at a ssd drive at the moment but am now thinking should I get the motherboard first..........

In an ideal world it would be a board I could use what I am running now on but with the possibility of upgrading bits. So eventually

-Dual Core Chip will be i7
-I'll be running 16/32gb ddr3 ram
- 2gb ddr3 graphics (not sure what)
-240/260gb+ ssd
- 1/2 1tb hdd

If that makes sense I hope so. I would also be looking at usb 3.0 on m/board.

Almost no components from 5-6 years ago will be compatible . You need to buy board/cpu/RAM together

and you may need a new copy of windows and almost certainly a fresh install of windows
