hi so i'm gett a new 1- Motherboard 2- CPU 3- CPU Cooler

my current setup is

i5 7400

Gigabyte GTX 1060 3gb

intel stock cooler

microATX Case http://www.x2products.com/computer-cases/i7-x2-s8024w-cer-u3/

and an old motherboard which i don't know the name of it

and my new setup will be like this

i7 8700k

msi z370m gaming pro ac motherboard (microATX)

noctua NH-U9S Premium Quality Quiet CPU Cooler

i'm getting a new cpu cooler because i heard the intel stock cooler will not work perfectly with the new i7

but i'm afraid that some parts won't fit into my case like the cooler or motherboard for example, can u help me?

btw my case can do CPU cooler height up to 130mm

and the cooler i'm getting is 125mm

so we good with that maybe?

Solution

It should be just fine, its meant to handle up to 165w of heat output, your i7 8700K would only output roughly 95w of heat at stock, which means you have plenty of headroom to play with the clocks a bit.

It'll fit.

Why not go with a 7700(K)? Is the extra money invested worth that 15%? boost in performance that the 8700K offers?

https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy can show you/us the parts list. How's your PSU?

8700k is only extra 30$ from the 7700k. so why not

btw will the noctua cooler listed above can handle i7 8700k?

and what do you think about my case? is it really bad?
bcuz someone told me that it Has next to no cpu cooler clearence, limited to low end coolers & cable management is tragic.

Because that platform was made completely obsolete by first ryzen, then by coffee lake, theres no room to grow, and for the price of a 7700k you can get an i5 that ties or beats it AND a newer motherboard so you can upgrade to an 8 core in the future if you'd like.

another question. will the NH-U9S struggle with i7 8700k? or it will do enough work?
btw i'm not planning to do crazy overclocking, just minor ones

Normally I would agree, but they don't need new RAM since they're already on Kaybe Lake, which uses DDR4. The motherboard is anywhere from $50 to $150 depending on what they want, and honestly the best move would be to move to an i5 because you can usually pick up both the cpu and motherboard for less than a 7700K. The 7700K is just not worth it, its a status chip, that's all, and its not even much of that anymore since the release of Coffee Lake and Ryzen.

Honestly they're both pretty much the same, the u12s does have a slightly bigger radiator so it should allow for some better heat dissipation, but its not a night and day difference between the two.
