Hey Guys,

I just got some money to spend on my PC (like 400-1000€, depends on what is needed) and I need your help to figure out which GPU fits my Rig so I don't overdo it.

Thanks in advance

My Components:
OS: Win 10
CPU: Intel i5-4460 @ 3.20Ghz (4 CPUs)
RAM: 16GB DDR3
MoBo: Gigabyte H97-D3H (only compatible with 5th gen. intel CPUs)
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
Powersupply: Cougar A400

What I want to do:
I want to play CS:GO and Fortnite on 1920x1080 with 150-200 fps, graphic settings can be low if needed.
Right now I play CS:GO on 1024x720 with 150-300 fps and fortnite at 1600x900 at 70fps

Obviously the GPU is the hard bottleneck atm, but f.e. is the GeForce GTX 1060 an overkill for my setup? What would you recommend me? Do you think I'll have to switch my MoBo and CPU in the near future anyways and I should therefor invest into a better GPU?

Kind regards,
mschoder

From what I've seen, the 1060 should handle medium settings 144hz 1080p in games like CSGO and Fortnite. If you plan to keep playing newer games for the next few years at 144Hz I'd jump to the 1070 though.

Overall I'd recommend the 1060 6GB and a newer CPU (8600k if possible) and then only upgrade to the 1070 if you've got tons of cash right now. The next series of GPUs from Nvidia should be out in a year at least, and you could upgrade the 1060 then.
The GPU needs an upgrade for sure. If you're willing to go with low settings the 1060 6GB wll push 1080p at at least 120fps. Not sure about higher as I've never tested up there with that card.
However, CPU also effects minimum FPS pretty strongly. If you want to not drop frames (feeling the tiny freezes every now and then) you will need a CPU with high single-thread performance. Something like a new 8600k is best for that, but a 8350k should work. More cores makes for a more stable load though.

Hey all,

short update:
I bought the GTX 1060 and the i5-8600k - ofc i didn't check if its compatible with my mobo and it is not >.<
now I am debating if I return the CPU or buy a new motherboard -

Do you have any suggestions for a good motherboard (<200€) which still supports DDR3 RAM?

Cheers
