Build Advice Upgrading my PC for music production

Hey,
I have an old computer that I bought a few years ago. Recently, I started creating music and it's been causing issues with big projects. I looked at the software requirements and they suggest buying the fastest CPU available for a single core (which has over 8 cores) that my budget allows. Sometimes I also play games on this computer, but the current gpu is sufficient for me as I play with low quality.
I was posted couple of weeks ago, and was advised to wait for the new AMD CPU launch, which I heard wasn't so good.

My specs are:
CPU:Intel Core i5-6500
CPU cooler:Bloody Tiger A40
Motherboard:Gigabyte GA-B150M-HD3
RAM:16GB DDR4 RAM1 stick
Power Supply:Antec VP-500
Graphics Card:Nvidia GeForce GTX 10606GB

My budget for upgrading is between $680 to $800 (top-end, only if it's really worth it)

You got some stellar suggestions on this thread of yours;
and they still hold good to this day since Intel's path is pointless while AMD's Ryzen 9000 series wasn't up to the hype.

You've just upped the budget a little. You could've easily updated the thread prior on your increment in your build's budget. For the sake of relevance, you should stylize your thead with info asked of in this thread;
inclusive of your location, your preferred site for purchase and your absolute budget, not to mention the apps you will use to tax the build with.

I thought that the changed information is big enough to open a new thread.
Nevertheless as far as I understand the suggestions from the previous one is still good, so I think I will just buy the computer.
Thanks

Since you need good single thread performance, first measure what you have.
Run the CPU-Z bench on your I5-6500.
You should see a single thread rating of about 383:
https://valid.x86.fr/bench/w7q4vs#google_vignette
Alternately, look at the passmark ratings.
Here is the link for the i5-6500:
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-6500+@+3.20GHz&id=2599
The single thread rating is 2107.

As an example, the I5-14600 mentioned in your other post scores 816 in cpu-Z
and has a passmark single thread rating of 4094.

You could keep your ddr4 ram stick, but dual channel ram operation might induce you to change your ram.
