upgrading my pc

my current mobo is gigabyte g31/g33 express chipset family. is this mobo good for gaming.
i was thinking to pair sapphire HD 7770 (DDR5) and AMD FX6300 .
Power supply is 450 W (can buy a new one if my current mobo is good)

Yes it will be fine with the CPU and GPU. The 450W would be fine but not enough headroom if you overclock.

Your current motherboard is for an Intel CPU, you can't use an AMD FX6300 in it. If you replace the motherboard then you will also need to replace the RAM with DDR3. This will quickly turn into a new build. What is the brand/model number of your PSU?

and what is this DDR thing. I thought THAT my mobo is DDR2 and GPU is DDR5 so it wont work..

shortstuff_mt was right your mobo would not support 6300. So just keep that in mind. Maybe upgrade a CPU and a mobo if the mobo is old.

Ideally you want ddr3 ram so I would get a new mobo. I also think you'd be better off getting a single gpu instead of cross-firing - a 270x or a 280 would be good. 450-550 watts should be fine for your psu and the fx6300 is a decent choice.

what if i use core i3 3220 instead of 6300?? i can manage with core i3

You can't use an i3 CPU with your motherboard either. Your motherboard uses the very old LGA 775 socket which is not compatible with current CPUs. You have to match motherboard sockets with CPU sockets. The bottom line is that none of your components will be able to be upgraded since they're too old. You will need a new computer. Computer hardware becomes very expensive as it becomes obsolete. LGA 775 CPUs and DDR2 RAM are very expensive and not worth buying any more since they haven't been manufactured for many years.

No worries haha. You said earlier that your motherboard only supports ddr2 ram when really ddr3 ram is the standard today, so it would be recommended to get a new motherboard that supports ddr3. Instead of getting two amd Graphics Cards (this is know as cross-firing) get a single, stronger card. One that I have previously suggested would be good.
