I am planning to upgrade my pc and I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice.

Current set up;
-Cpu AMD FX6300 Black Edition 6 Core (3.5/4.1GHz, 8MB Level 3 Cache, 6MB Level 2 Cache, Socket AM3+, 95W
-Motherboard Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 Motherboard
-Hard drive Seagate Barracuda 3.5 inch 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB 6GB/S Internal SATA Drive
I also have another hard drive which is seagate 7200 RPM 500GB
-Graphics Card Sapphire HD 7750 1GB GDDR5 DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card
-Ram Crucial 8GB DDR3 1333MHz Memory Module CL9 1.5 V
-Case Casecom KSM-7288 Piano Black Mid Tower Case - 2x USB2.0 on Front Panel
-PSU Corsair CX500 it's 500 watts

So this my current set up and I'm planning to upgrade it, so I get better performance while gaming (higher fps mostly), I would also like to do a bit of recording.

I have around £200/$312.14 to spend on upgrades.
what I am planning to upgrade is the ram and gpu

Upgrades;
-Ram HyperX FURY Series 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMM Memory Module Kit - Black - £34.60
http://www.amazon.co.uk/HyperX-FURY-1866MHz-Memory-Module/dp/B00J8E90I2/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1438794178&sr=8-8&keywords=ram

-Gpu MSI AMD R9 280 Gaming Graphics Card (3GB, GDDR5) - £182.19
http://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-R9-280-Gaming-Graphics/dp/B00IYD0K9Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1438794004&sr=8-1&keywords=MSI+Radeon+R9+280+3GB

So these are the two upgrades I'm planning,
and my questions are:

-Will my PSU be able to run this or will I have to upgrade it as well?

And

-Do you have any better suggestions for upgrading my pc?

Thanks for taking the time to check this out and read it.
I really appreciate it.

Thanks
Ben

Solution
id be dubious about a 280 in that case mate - they do run fairly hot

I would go gtx 960,aftermarket cooler ,little overclock (possible on that board fairly easily)
leave the ram for the moment - its not going to dramatically increase performance for gaming.

would it not be a better idea to upgrade the case rather than buy an extra fan.

i.e. NZXT S340 White Mid Tower PC Case
http://www.amazon.co.uk/computers/dp/B00NZI69JU/ref=sr_1_6?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1438799758&sr=1-6&keywords=gaming+pc+cases

I realise this would mean rebuilding my whole pc but at least this way I will be able to upgrade it without being held back by the case.

Your case is not tbat bad mate - as long as you have a front intake & a rear exhaust fan fitted.
The cover was to allow for overclocking your 6300 more than anything else.
This is a cheaper one & will do a good job.
Cooler Master RR-TX3E-22PK-R1 Hyper TX3 Evo "High Performance, 3 Direct Contact Heat Pipes, Universal CPU Cooler" Black Fan https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005HIRDUA/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_EyVWvbB72GAZG

I would 100% take a 960 over a 280 nowdays mate - that model you picked is way way overpriced - 280's were going for £120 a few months back.the 960 is a stronger card.

If you want to stay with amd than go with a 380 over a 280.
