Hi... i have a almost 3 years old pc that that i wanted to upgrade or just sell it and build a new one but not sure wich one would be better to do...

8 gb dd3 ram
gtx 780
I5 4670k
mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3
psu :Cooler Master B700 700W.
now i was wondering if it will be OK to get a 1070 or even a 1080 and leave the rest of it as it is...another thing is that i never overclocked my CPU but it always hits 90 plus degrees when playing bf 1 or ... does that mean that my CPU is damaged? or can just get a third party cpu cooler?

also is the ddr4 ram important ? as u can see im really confused and not sure what to do 😀

You'll be perfectly fine to get a 1070 or 1080, but you seriously need an aftermarket cooler, those are some extremely high temps.
Your motherboard doesn't support DDR4, that's only for Skylake onwards.
Get the Cryorig H7, fantastic cooler for the money and no RAM interference.

tnx than i guess i just get a better lookinbg case and a new gpu (maybe another 8gb ddr3 ram) . but those high tems on the cpu...do u think that they might have damaged the cpu after like 3 years or use with the stock cooler ? is it worth the upgrade or should just build a new rig`?

ps: since it was my first PC build i really DONT remember using that paste thing when i installed the stock CPU cooler , that is why im so worried that its been damaged.

your i5 is still a decent chip and there is no real reason to replace it, IMHO. you can add a better cooler and get even more performance yet, so replacement seems premature to me. the thermal paste on your cooler should be changed yearly, I would say the thermal issues are coming from the old TIM and the stock cooler. both are easily fixed.
What monitor do you have? That more than anything will tell you how much GPU power to get. if you are gaming at 1080 @60-75Hz, the RX480 is the card to look at. if you are running a 1440 or higher monitor at higher refresh (144Hz) then I would go with the 1070. DDR4 is not enough of a reason to change, again this is my humble opinion.

the stock cooler has a pad of paste pre-installed. All you needed to do was install the cooler. after that first time the paste must be cleaned and reapplied whenever you remove the cooler.

tnx for all the answers :).. well i have a monitor that i wanted to replace actually... 1440p monitors are expensive where i live but because of a sale i can actually get a 4k monitor with the price of a 1080p 144ahz monitor, havent decided on witch one i should get tho..

also will overclocking the i5 4670k help in those games like bf and gta as u said ? even in 4k in case i go with that monitor?

Actually, playing games in 4k would be less demanding on your CPU because the GPU won't be pushing as many frames per second. So yes an overclocked 4670K should be good even with a GTX 1080 playing games in 4K.

I had a detailed response typed up, but something came up and most of the information is redundant now. You've got solid advice above.

Couple of things to add though... I would say is that in all likelihood the temperature issue at the moment is a simple result of dust buildup. By all means if you want to OC, get yourself an aftermarket cooler and you'll be good to go. But in the meantime, just get some compressed or something and clear out that CPU heatsync. You'll very like see 20 degrees or more shed from the CPU temps. De-dust the whole PC too, because if the CPU heatsync is that obstructed, it's likely that your PSU, mobo heatsync, GPU, etc etc are clogged up and running hotter than they should too.

Couple of other quick points:
- You don't mention your mobo. It is Z87 or Z97 I hope? Otherwise you can't OC
- You don't mention your PSU -> you don't need a beast to OC that CPU, but you do want to make sure it's something half decent at least.
- As said, you can't go to DDR4 (which doesn't matter anyway), but an upgrade to 16GB RAM wouldn't be a bad idea at some point. It's unlikely to make a massive difference, but 16GB is a better fit for a nice rig like yours
- If you're looking for value for money and aren't interested in style or bragging rights, don't go overboard on the CPU cooler. With an i5 like yours, a premium cooler is going to make very little difference to you final, stable OC.

Have fun.

yes i forgot about my mobo...its a Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3 and the psu :Cooler Master B700 700W.

again tnx a lot for all the answers,i think the smartest chose would be to upgrade, a
Deepcool Captain 120 EX White , 4k Monitor (or maybe the 1080p 😀) and a new gpu (either a 1070 or 1080).
