Hi my setup is as follows
I5 - 6500 w/ 120mm AIO
8 GB Ram 2333 MHz (i think)
Asus z170 prime
Asus gtx970 turbo

The problem is that my pc i starting to get a bit slow (low FPS and FPS drops)
What would you upgrade first?

Thinking About either
1600X/7600K
16 GB Ram 3000MHz
240 mm AIO
x370 or z270 mobo

Or

Getting a GTX1070

Im gaming in 1080p with dual monitors. (Both 144hz)

Futureproofing ftw

Some games are graphics limited like fast action shooters.
Others are cpu core speed limited like strategy, sims, and mmo.
Multiplayer with many participants tend to like many threads.

You need to find out which.
------------------------------------------------------------
To help clarify your CPU/GPU options, run these two tests:

a) Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

b) Limit your cpu, either by reducing the OC, or, in windows power management, limit the maximum cpu% to something like 70%.
Go to control panel/power options/change plan...
Well you don't NEED a new MB because you already have a Z170 board now.

You could just get an I7 7600K, new Ram and a GTX 1070 and call it good and it will last you for awhile.

Or you could wait and see what the prices are for the Z370 MB's and 8th Gen i7's.

And or you can also just add more Ram and get a GTX 1070 now and not buy anything else while you wait. (That's what I would do)

Go to control panel/power options/change plan settings/change advanced power settings/processor power management/maximum processor state/
This will simulate what a lack of cpu power will do.
Conversely what a 30% improvement in core speed might do.

You should also experiment with removing one or more cores/threads. You can do this in the windows msconfig boot advanced options option.
You will need to reboot for the change to take effect. Set the number of threads to less than you have.
This will tell you how sensitive your games are to the benefits of many threads.
If you see little difference, your game does not need all the threads you have.

It is possible that both tests are positive, indicating that you have a well balanced system,
and both cpu and gpu need to be upgraded to get better gaming FPS.
-------------------------------------------------------------

With a bios update, you should be good for a I5-7600K or I7-7700K
either will OC near 5.0.
As of 6/19/17
What percent of samples can get an overclock
at a vcore around 1.4v.
I5-7600K
4.9 72%
5.0 52%
5.1 27%
5.2 16%
5.3 samples exist, unknown % of occurrence
I7-7700K
4.9 83%
5.0 62%
5.1 29%
5.2 6%
For single thread performance, this will be better than ryzen which tops out near 4.0.
If your games are multiplayer with many participants, then many threads from ryzen or I7 are good

On the graphics card side, your GTX970 is still a good card.
If you decide to upgrade, particularly for fast action shooters, make it a significant jump or you may be disappointed.
I would think GTX1080 or even GTX1080ti.

Do you have games that use dual monitors?
That is unusual.
If you are gaming on a single primary monitor, adding a second side monitor will not impact your gaming.
