Upgrading my PC

Hi guys, I'm thinking about upgrading my PC. The biggest reason for this is due to getting fps drops and freezes in that game PUBG. Currently My build is as followed:

AMD Ryzen 5 1600X
GTX 1060 3GB
8GB of DDR4
120GB SSD
1TB HDD

What do you guys think the main thing is that's letting the build down? Imo I'm sure the next thing I'll do is buy 16GB of RAM... Any idea what could be causing frame drops/ freezes ? Thanks

Solution
There are 2 problems with your build:

1) The RAM is probably a bit on the low side. Most DDR4 systems (Intel or AMD) seem to be looking at having 16 GB. However, that's probably more if you're going to stream.

2) You're playing a very poorly optimized game (PUBG). Even systems with a monster amount of cores/threads & gobs of RAM have FPS drops in that game.

Should my PC be using half of the RAM just listening to music on youtube?

Yeah, if you're trying to run the game along with multiple browser sessions, you can definitely get some stuttering/slow performance. As others mentioned, PUBG can suck up a lot of RAM, and your browser can get into GBs of usage as well. So a RAM upgrade might be worthwhile for you, or you can just go with a minimal setup when playing PUBG (i.e. nothing else running). You can check your overall RAM usage by going to Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+ESC) and looking at the Processes (choose More Details) tab to see where you are at and what is using it.

Another possible issue might be with the SSD. There were a a few models that had some stuttering issues. Also, if you are close to filling it up, you can also get performance drops. If you're at your max, try to free up 10-20GB.

Okay so I just ran the game with task manager open to check some things.
The game is using 100% of my GPU
and about 96% of my RAM

I have about 40GB of space on my SSD

I'm not sure if using 100% of my GPU is normal, but I think the solution would be to upgrade the RAM at this point.

If anyone wants to suggest some sites to buy from, or if I should stick to ebay/amazon, lemme know.

The 3GB version of the 1060, not even counting the memory portion of it, is a slightly less powerful version of the 1060 6GB.

Also, the 3GB memory is sometimes limiting, even at 1080p. There are SOME games where a 1050Ti with it's 4GB performs better than the 1060 3GB version, due to the added memory.

Above and beyond all that, as has been mentioned by others, PUBG itself is poorly optimized.

I recommend Newegg. Good tech site, and they fight back against patent trolls.

Usually one of the major memory brands is on sale.
