Hello guys,

I currently have the following specs:
Specs:
CPU: Intel i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz
RAM: 8gbx2 Ripjaws V F4-2400C17S-8GVR DDR4
GPU: RTX 3060ti
Motherboard: GA-Z270X-Gaming K5
PSU: (I can't really check but the outside sticker says ) RM650x

I bought it used from the facebook marketplace last year for a really good deal and wanted to start upgrading it little by little, what would you upgrade first? someone told me that the CPU was a little outdated but im not sure since its a i7.

I bought a new monitor yesterday: 32" Odyssey G7 WQHD and waiting for it to arrive. I play a lot of new games and play on highish settings, sometimes i notice a few stutters. I also play fortnite a lot, and use Geforce's optimize settings and i get around 80fps which is kinda weird cause all the 3060ti benchmarks i see fortnite gets over 100+ fps on high settings. Since I bought a 1440 monitor, going from 1080 i am scared that i will see performance issues. what should i upgrade? Thanks so much!!

That's probably a Corsair power supply. Should be OK quality if working well.

SSD is good; no reason to upgrade it unless you need more capacity.

CPU is about 6 year old technology. Current mid to upper level Intel CPUs are at least double the strength of the 7700.

Your DDR 4 might be reusable on a new motherboard.

New motherboard and CPU for maybe 350 to 500 would be a major improvement. You can't upgrade the CPU much unless you also upgrade the motherboard.

You have to understand that your CPU and RAM are from 2017, as a result, in modern games you're not going to see the same performance with your 3060ti as in those benchmarks on newer CPUs. The stutters you're seeing are caused by the same thing, your CPU and RAM speeds are a bit too slow at times for these modern games.

However, going from 1080p to WQHD is mostly going to affect your graphics card, your CPU will actually be working easier as the frame rate drops...but at least you will be getting better usage from the 3060ti.

Personally, I wouldn't upgrade anything, as your only real upgrade path is to replace everything.

Update: Thinking about it, are you overclocking your CPU? It's an area where you can gain some free performance, but you will need a good cooler, this might be the one upgrade I would look at

Cpu wise your at the top with that mobo so unless you want to change the mobo that's a dead end.

So just to pick around the edges...... proper bios and drivers?
How full is your ssd?
Startup group nice and skinny?

It came with a corsair liquid cooler, haven't messed with anything tbh. the only settings i changed was game mode on, changed power setting to ultimate, turned on accelerated GPU in graphics settings and changed some settings on the NVIDIA control panel. Don't really know how to overclock. If i wanted to upgrade, would a new Motherboard, RAM, and CPU be pretty all i would need?

There is nothing that's out games wise you can't play on your current system. Yes it's not on par as the latest gear but enjoy it.

On the cheap is DDR4 memory I would put it to the 64Gbs that the motherboard can take and you will see a huge jump in smoothness. Even if you only go to 32Gbs it will still run like butter.

Sure as time goes on you might have to settle that your system can only play 995 games out of the top 1000. Enjoy what you have and on the side start building your dream machine.

Thanks!!! this comment makes me happy. That's a good idea, I'll just get 64GB ram and save up for a whole new build, thanks!

EDIT: I'm looking at getting a RIPJAWS V 3600 8x4 https://www.gskill.com/product/165/184/1536135321/F4-3600C19Q-32GVRB

I was looking for 64GB but the max speed shows 3000 MT/s so i dont know if that would be a performance difference (im looking at gigabyte's RAM configurator with my current motherboard specs)

64GB?
For games?
32 is more than enough.
64 is for proffesional users that use very demanding apps.
Or if you wish to play Ratchet and Clank:Rift Appart of the HDD without any issues where you upload the entire game into RAM.

Well it cannot hurt.
