I have an old but still usable HP NC6000 , I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether I can upgrade the internal miniPCI wifi card with a newer model that is N or AC compatible ? I have it running as a dual boot Windows XP and Linux MintOS system. I tried looking but started to get swamped with everything, so any links to a new card would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you

For HP laptops, generally you cannot use a wireless adapter that is not listed in the service manual. Unfortunately, the only adapters listed for the NC6000 are all old b/g or a/b/g compatible so no N or AC devices are available.

I would look for a USB 2.0 wireless N adapter that has drivers compatible with your two OS versions. Something like an inexpensive TP-LINK TL-WN821N, which I know supports Win XP and works pretty well.
