Upgrading Old PC

Hello boys and girls!

So I decided to upgrade my PC, and I need your help.

So, the thing is that I have an ASUS M4A77TD Motherboard and an AMD Radeon HD5770 Graphics card with a Phenom II X4 Processor. (Which is about 5 years old now)
And I want to upgrade by components, not everything at once, because... you know, money...
I was thinking about to first buy the motherboard and the processor, so I can put my older graphics card and memory inside the new motherboard while I wait for money to get the other components too.
Please tell your opinion, and suggetion, maybe I should chose other motherboard, anything you want to, I'm really nervous, because of compatibility, etc... + which case you suggest?

No problem about compatibility, should all just work fine, and these parts are very good, don't worry about that

Thank you for your answer, but my current motherboard could handle gtx 970 and the rams?

GTX 970 has PCIe 3.0, the motherboard has 2.0 but that doesn't matter that much, you might lose a little bit of performance but it will run pretty good.
The ram will work also
