[SOLVED] Upgrading old PC.

Hello. I would like to upgrade one of my computers. It has 16 GB RAM DDR3,i7-2600k (4.2Ghz),Z68A-G45 (G3),GIGABYTE GTX 1070 WINDFORCE, PSU 750W Corsair ( I will find out the exact model if needed), SPARTAN 3 PRO. I would like to upgrade at little cost. The main issue is Warzone 2.0 (stuttering, FPS drop) . I think the main culprit is CPU. I would like either to buy a motherboard,RAM (16 GB DDR4) and CPU or a better GPU. which option is better? I don't know how to overclock the i7 above 4.2Ghz, I use auto OC option in UEFI but I don' think it will help much in Warzone. The setup is used for 1080p gaming. I also think of getting Warhammer DarkTide to play it smoothly on the lowest settings or medium. The CPUs I thought about purchasing were i3-12100F,i5-10400F,i5-11400F,Ryzen 5 3600,Ryzen 5 5500,Ryzen 5 5600. I just need a good enough CPU to handle newest games that will not bottleneck current mid-range GPUS like 6650 XT or RTX 3060 TI which I will upgrade to one of these or similar priced later.

as cheap as the 5600 is, it's hard to pass on. low power so a budget mobo works fine with it. and good enough that it can pair well with most any new gpu. it would be my pick.

mobo choice would be based on your needs. how many m.2 slots? sata ports? usb ports? and so on do you need?

sucks to get one and the realize you can't use 2 m.2 drives or have to sacrifice multiple sata ports or half the pcie slot's lanes or whatever.

knowing what you need/want or could possibly want in the future of the pc will make sure you get enough mobo without going overboard and spending too much.

I currently have a SATA 3 SSD but sure, 1x M.2 slot is essential. I also need at least 4 USB ports. I think I could pick one for myself but I'm concerned about new Ryzen support. Some motherboards need BIOS update for new Ryzens to be recognized. Also, which chipset should I go for in a budget mobo, B450, B550 or another?

B550 would be the best shot for it working out of the box. B450 is ample for it but you're not 100% sure if it will need a BIOS update or not. at this point, in my experience, the B550 boards tend to be updated out of the box for the 5000 series so long as it reasonably new stock.

but you should always be prepared for it to need the update. you can plan ahead and get a bord that can update the BIOS with no cpu installed, but i'd have to look at what models can do it. i have spare ryzen chips so i don't really worry about it. so not really memorized which models can do it and what each brand calls the capability.

i've used this mobo a couple times recently and it ran a 5000 series cpu out of the box no problem, you get 1 m.2 slot and 6 sata ports. or if you use 2nd m.2 slot takes 2 sata ports away leaving 4.

throw in $50 or so for 16gb ram and you're doing pretty good for a $300 upgrade. it comes with the wrath cooler or you can go with a nice budget cooler if you wish for more. 150w cooler are cheap and easily handle the chip.
