Hi,

Someone asked me for advice on upgrading a Samsung NP-RC710-S02BE laptop to a SSD. I work mostly with desktops and have little experience upgrading laptops, I do not have the laptop in my posession so I have a couple of questions.

1) Do we need to look for anything special when buying the SSD. I assume I can plug in pretty much any 2.5" SATA 6Gbps SSD into this laptop, is this correct for this particular laptop model?

2) Will it work or do we risk running into BIOS issues? A quick check on the Samsung driver page reveals there hasn't been a firmware update since July 2011.

Thanks.

Solution
For #1: You don't need to look for anything special, most SSD's are 1.8" and SATA. In most cases it is a straight swap with no adapters or anything needed
For #2: I have done this many times with old and new laptops with no issues so you should be fine
