Hello all, first time posting here as I am as noobie as they come when it comes to building or upgrading computers. My laptop i use currently isnt running the games i want to play as well as i would like (H-hour, WoW, LoL etc) so i went downstairs to my older desktop pc to see if i could rig an upgrade on it to run these games at a respectable rate. The PC is a hp pavilion a6302f (http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c01316378). I am curious to know if this is a viable option for an upgrade because as it stands this pc wont run what i need im sure of it. I will try and answer any questions that need to be answered to help, thank you!

The motherboard wont support anything worth upgrading to so you will need a new motherboard and cpu and ram (current memory uses a different interface slot). You would need a GPU to support the games you want to play and a PSU to support the GPU.

This leaves you with the case, hard drive and dvd drive that are potentially reusable.
The hard drive is 8 years old and has to be near the end of its life
The case while it should support the upgrades was never designed with the cooling in mind for what you need.

Thus you might as well just sell that desktop for whatever you can get of it and build new.

Fortunately none of the games you are asking about require much processing power.
Using USA prices, you can get an i3 + h81 board + 8gb memory for $230
A GTX 750 ti plus 450w psu for around $200
Case + hard drive + dvd burner for around $120
Windows Operating system for $100. That is $650 total.

This would play WoW and LoL with ease.

Thanks for the suggestion on a computer build, was that just whipped together quickly? I ask because my biggest concern is buying these pieces separately and then them not working together in unison when built. Are they all compatible? THANK YOU
