I'm still running an OLD Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI motherboard with a 120GB IDE boot drive. I just bought a new Samsung 850 Pro SSD 256GB drive hoping to get a little more life and performance out of this system before I do a new build later this year.
My question, which I've been unable to find a definite answer to, is does this motherboard support AHCI for the new SSD drive? I'm running the 120GB IDE primary drive along with a n 80GB IDE D: drive and a 2TB SATA drive.
The manual for the SSD states to switch SATA to AHCI to support the new drive (I'm wanting to clone over the current C drive to the new SSD drive), but I cant find any reference to AHCI in the manual for the old Gigabyte motherboard.
Is my motherboard too old to use an SSD? I understand I probably won't get peak performance with a new SSD drive, but was hopeful it would extend the life a few more months until I can buy a new mb/cpu/memory to start a rebuild.
Much thanks to anyone that can give a little insight and info on this dilemma. I'd like to find out before beginning to clone over the old drive to the new.
