Hi
I was wondering if there was any way I could successfully upgrade my HP Pavilion 500-326na to play higher graphically demanding games. I have quite a bit of money to play around with but i dont really want to spend like £700 on a new rig because the pc is only a year old.
I dont have that much experience with building pcs etc but here is some specs:

HP Pavilion 500-326na Desktop PC
QUAD-CORE AMD A8-6500 APU
/ 6GB Ram
/ 1TB HDD
/ AMD Radeon R7 240 Dual Graphics

I really would recommend selling the PC and starting over, since if you go about upgrading OEM systems at one point or another you will face obstructions.

The A8 6500 does terribly bad in CPU intensive games like BF4, Watch Dogs, and GTA V, so it really isn't worth using in a gaming rig. The motherboard doesn't support any CPUs that will give good performance, so that will need to be upgraded too. You will get terrible temperatures with the stock case, and it most probably won't even fit an enthusiast GPU like the GTX 960. The PSU will have to be upgraded no question.

In short, you will need to upgrade the CPU, GPU, PSU, Motherboard and case to make it a worthwhile gaming rig. Add another £150 for the RAM, Windows and HDD / SSD and you can get a fully fledged custom built PC. In my opinion, this upgrade is just not worth it, especially since it is AMD based and so does not have a good upgrade path.
