Upgrading Optiplex motherboard to another Optiplex model

Good Day everyone,

I have an old Dell Optiplex 740, i want to change the motherboard from AMD platform to Intel platform and decided to change by using other Optiplex motherboard model (e.g. Optiplex 755, Optiplex 760 ....) .so far anyone tried this method ?

Yes, as long as you use the same format motherboard and of a similar vintage, this will work. I have done just this a couple of times.

It should work, which model do you have? As in the SFF, mid tower, USFF...

Mine is a mini tower type casing, does a SFF or DT type of motherboard fit in to a mid-tower casing?

You'll have to get a mini tower mobo and you'll also most likely have to get a cooler from the 755 as they changed the orientation of the cpu so that it's rotated 45 degrees.
