Upgrading pc, either amc upgrade or go to intel i7

MSI 970 gaming motherboard
XFX 285 DD 2gb gpu
Corsair CX 750w psu

I am looking into upgrading my pc and am considering a few options and i am budgeted with what i can spend.

1. Upgrade cpu to fx 8350/$60 or 8370/$120 - upgrade gpu later to 1060 mini 6gb

2. Go budget intel i7 3930K at about $70 then get a decent MB and upgrade gpu.

Could I just replace MB And chip and use the psu and in effect go intel?
I have a spare windows 10 key to use as well.

The problem with all the parts you suggested is that they're all dated technologies already. We're up to DDR4 RAM now. For 120$ you can get the Ryzen 3 2200G, which would be a better recommendation IMO.

Shoestring at best. Catching up from being off work for month. Longterm buy a part...wait a couple weeks get another part is going to be my route.

If i were to go ryzen i would want a 5 at minimum.

Yeah I would suggest you go that route. Doesn't make sense to buy anything older. Keep in mi d that you will need a motherboard to go with it and will need DDR4 RAM.

ryzen 7 1700 are around $200

Yeah but you need a new motherboard and new RAM as well.
