Afternoon.

im currently in the process of getting a new build together. Im from the uk & my budget is around £750.
I just need the pc to perform fast e.g transferring large files, boot times. Will be used for light gaming, light photoshop work.
Atm it does look like prices have shot up due to the pandemic and a lot of things are out of stock. What would you guys recommend parts wise ?
I have always had AMD systems

Solution
Looks good. I would make 2 changes. I highly recommend spending the little extra money and getting the 512GB SSD. You can afford it by not getting the more expensive RAM.

If you want more bulk storage a 1-2TB HDD costs less than 50 Quid. Otherwise the SN550 is the best budget NVMe SSD right now. The CPU has 6c/12t and has very good performance. Going with 16GB RAM is basically the minimum I would ever recommend for someone with a budget more than $500. The 1660 Super is a good GPU that will have good performance in light gaming.

That would work as well, however, your prices are all is USD from that build. On top of that I wouldn't recommend using such a small SSD. If the drive is going to be nothing more than storage for the OS/Applications when 256GB is OK but going 500GB is recommended. If you are going to hold some games on the SSD then 500GB is minimum and 1TB is recommended.

Another thing to weigh is the performance increase vs price increase for the RAM. When on a smaller budget, the added cost of 3600MHz RAM vs 3200MHz RAM can be the difference in a 1660 or 1660 Super GPU. The RAM will give you maybe 5% better performance with an average of 2-3% whereas the GPU will give you 10-20% better performance.

Cool, so are you saying the hyper x memory is better than the corsair vengence? & what power supply would work with this system pref a fully modular or semi, nothing in stock. i want to save money where i can but dont wanna lose performance

Both sets of RAM are good. The biggest question is the 25% increase in cost to get the LPX worth the 3% better system performance over the Hyper-X. For a PSU Corsair TXM or RM(x), Seasonic Focus GM or GX or Focus Plus, Antec Earthwatts Gold Pro (with all black cables), & EVGA G3 are all very good PSUs. For budget PSUs look at this list by Jonnyguru.

Afternoon,
So Iv just built the system and everything is running smooth, only one problem. When I’m transferring files from my m.2 drive to like a usb or external hard drive, the speeds start at around 1gbps and suddenly drop down to 30mbps, also is there any settings in bios to set up the drive or is it plug and play? It was a fresh install of windows 10

Write speeds onto USB or External HDD are always slow. Unless you are lucky enough to have the files being sequential in nature.
