Hi

I'm looking to buy a new CPU and motherboard for gaming purposes. Games I play are mainly Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and CS:GO.
MFS2020 apparently uses more CPU than GPU so the CPU should be as powerful as possible..
My budget will be around 350€, is the intel i5 9600k good option or are there better options for this price range?
Also would be nice if the mobo and CPU are unlocked for overclocking..
What about memory, should I upgrade to DDR4 or use my DDR3 sticks?

Any advice is appreciated

Probably going with the Ryzen 5 5600X then. What about the motherboard, what should I buy that supports this chip? And possibly open for overclocking if I ever decide to do so
On amd, overclocking capable motherboards are cheaper.
Intel has H, B and Z boards, only Z supports overclocking
While on AMD, A, B, X and both B and X support overclocking

B450 boards should be minimum, but by the time the 5600X gets released, I suspect B550 will be cheaper. X570 or X470 are not worth your time.

So say, a good B550 board like the B550 TUF gaming plus or something
Okay, so here's the rundown.

First, you NEED ddr4 memory. the i5 9600k, or any processor after 6th gen intel/1st gen ryzen needs ddr4 memory.

As for overclocking, don't bother. Overclocking, especially on higher end chips, say an i9 and i7, is very minimal and will not reap any real performance metric.
Save the money that you will spend on an "overclocking motherboard" and put it into a better cpu.

Csgo can run on a potato, but flightsim is suuuper demanding, so don't expect 60fps. unless you turn the details waaay down.
Also, If you can, I suggest waiting till November and grabbing a ryzen 5 5600X instead. It will be atleast as fast, if not faster, with a cheaper (overclocking ready) motherboard.
