Upgrading PC, what will happen to OS?

Hello everyone, I'm currently rebuiling/upgrading an old HP Pavilion a1000 and I'm swapping out the CPU and Motherboard. I'm also buying IDE to SATA cable converter for my HDD if that matters. I was wondering, what's gonna happen to Windows XP? I only have the recovery CD but not my Windows Key. Thanks for your help.

well you will have to install drivers for the new hardware because the recovery CD will not have them. but the big concern is if changing the CPU and motherboard is enough to deactivate windows XP. also another question would be is if the version of windows on the recovery CD works like a normal OEM copy of windows

The Recovery function for XP may choke completely on seeing new the hardware, and refuse to install.

The license will definitely choke.
