Hi,
I'm using a Sony Vaio laptop 1.5yrs old. The model number is SVE15116ENB. It has i5-2450M processor. Can I upgrade the processor to i7 having 4 cores? If yes which i7 processors I can install? The i5-2450M processor can use upto 1333Mhz RAM but the RAM installed is PC3-12800 ADATA RAM. So can I install 8GB 1600Mhz PC3-12800 ADATA RAM?

Solution

Yes 1333 is hard to find now days 1600 will work but it will just run at 1333 just make sure you dont mix and match them. Just replace the ram altogether. You pc will crash if you mix ram and they are not compatible

No you cant upgrade laptop cpu's they are soldiered onto the motherboard. But you can replace the old ram if you want. Only if your laptop is specifically made for interchangeable or upgradeable parts you will be able to do this.

That's BS. I Have a VAIO SVE 14 inch series that came with a 3rd gen i3...I now have a i7 3612QM Processor. CPU came out of the socket and I installed the new one. If your laptop has the 76/77 chipset then you can upgrade. go to ark.intel.com and type in your cpu model which can be found in system information. It will tell you everything you need to know about your CPU. If it says BGA only then it is soldered. If it says pga, rpga then yes it can be replaced/upgraded.
